The rates vary with the model - for LG you could get cheaper lamps. Toshiba lamps are expensive. Another issue is shipping and customs if I buy from US. Another alternative is to buy lamps at once, have them shipped to a Buffalo PO box and then drive down to pick-up the lamps.
I buy a lot of stuff from Buffalo so driving down there is not a big deal. Plasma can easily last years with moderate use. So, I am not buying any top of the line TV ever again e. Before you pull the trigger, check to see if your model typically requires a new color wheel after replacing the bulb. It's not unknown for the wheel to die afterwards I just can't believe you have to replace a lamp every year!
Cost wise , replacing the bulb is a no-brainer. But if money wasn't an issue, I'd get rid of it. The flat screens today are probably much smaller than your current TV.
